Socio-Technical Systems Engineer

Joshua Sutherland is the Founder and President of Sutherland Systems Engineering Enterprise (SSEE) (founded 2009).

SSEE provides cutting edge Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) training to corporate clients through online courses, books and in person training. Subjects include MBSE, SysML and OPM. Joshua’s most recent online course on Object Process Modeling Language (OPM) currently has over 3,600 students enrolled.

Joshua is the forthcoming author of “Beyond MBSE: The Next Generation of Model Based Systems Engineering Theory and Practice.”

Who is Joshua?

Joshua sits on the Board of Directors of Imprint Academic (UK-based academic publisher) and Imprint Digital (UK-based book printer) where he provides strategic and technical leadership in the application of systems technology for increased enterprise productivity.
Joshua previously held software product development positions at BAE Systems and Modelon and designed manufacturing systems for Delphi.
Joshua founded and hosts the Systems Engineering Podcast and has hosted guests including Bryan Moser of MIT, Ricardo Viana Vargas of Brightline and Hillary Sillitto.
Joshua served as a committee member of Oxford University Engineering Society, organizing events with companies like BP, Barclays Capital, BMW Mini, Toyota and Prodrive.
Joshua holds engineering degrees from the University of Oxford and the University of Tokyo. He holds the INCOSE ASEP qualification. He speaks, reads and writes Japanese at high JLPT N4 level and has conducted in-person systems engineering training seminars in Tokyo.
